This is a list of deepsky objects that I saw with my 6" Sky-Watcher telescope since July 2011! And because I live in a city with a lot of light pollution, my deepsky observations are rare; only when I go outside the city. But still I can see Orion nebula, Andromeda and a few clusters from my balcony! Credits: Roth Ritter -- Double cluster S2P/IMCCE/Obs. Sup guys? Its Create. Sorry for the wait. It was a dual edit between me and Miner but we edited some of the same clips so I had to re edit it. The last half was rushed because Wolfy wanted it out by today. Also, we are recruiting so send us your best episode, GFX, or edit. If we don't respond it means no. Peace. -Create. Project Intro Astro Astronomy 101: The Solar System Lesson 1: Celestial Motions Lunar Month Next: Eclipses Previous: Lunar Phases (youtu.be In Lesson 1, we will explore the apparent motions of the stars, the sun, and the moon. We will explain the apparent motions of the stars and the sun in terms of the motions of Earth: its daily spin on its axis, its annual orbit around the sun, and the long-term precession of its spin axis. We will learn how length of day and the height of the sun in the sky at midday vary with season and latitude. We will explore lunar phases, lunar and solar eclipses, and the cycle over which all eclipses repeat. Project Intro Astro: www.youtube.com Lesson Playlist: www.youtube.com |

This new view shows a stellar nursery called NGC 3324. It was taken using the Wide Field Imager on the MPG/ESO 2.2-meter telescope at the La Silla Observatory in Chile. The intense ultraviolet radiation from several of NGC 3324's hot young stars causes the gas cloud to glow with rich colors and has carved out a cavity in the surrounding gas and dust. NGC 3324 is located in the southern constellation of Carina (The Keel, part of Jason's ship the Argo) roughly 7500 light-years from Earth. It is on the northern outskirts of the chaotic environment of the Carina Nebula, which has been sculpted by many other pockets of star formation. A rich deposit of gas and dust in the NGC 3324 region fueled a burst of starbirth there several millions of years ago and led to the creation of several hefty and very hot stars that are prominent in the new picture. Stellar winds and intense radiation from these young stars have blown open a hollow in the surrounding gas and dust. This is most in evidence as the wall of material seen to the center right of this image. The ultraviolet radiation from the hot young stars knocks electrons out of hydrogen atoms, which are then recaptured, leading to a characteristic colored glow as the electrons cascade through the energy levels, showing the extent of the local diffuse gas. Other colors come from other elements, with the characteristic glow from doubly ionized oxygen making the central parts appear greenish-yellow. As with clouds in the Earth's sky ... |

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has taken a picture of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1073, which is found in the constellation of Cetus (The Sea Monster). Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, is a similar barred spiral, and the study of galaxies such as NGC 1073 helps astronomers learn more about our celestial home. Most spiral galaxies in the Universe have a bar structure in their centre, and Hubble's image of NGC 1073 offers a particularly clear view of one of these. Galaxies' star-filled bars are thought to emerge as gravitational density waves funnel gas toward the galactic centre, supplying the material to create new stars. The transport of gas can also feed the supermassive black holes that lurk in the centres of almost every galaxy. Some astronomers have suggested that the formation of a central bar-like structure might signal a spiral galaxy's passage from intense star-formation into adulthood, as the bars turn up more often in galaxies full of older, red stars than younger, blue stars. This storyline would also account for the observation that in the early Universe, only around a fifth of spiral galaxies contained bars, while more than two thirds do in the more modern cosmos. While Hubble's image of NGC 1073 is in some respects an archetypal portrait of a barred spiral, there are a couple of quirks worth pointing out. One, ironically, is almost — but not quite — invisible to optical telescopes like Hubble. In the upper left part of the image, a rough ring-like ... |

There is a general feeling that religion and science are two very different—even opposite—things. This notion is not true; in fact, they may go hand-in-hand to help and improve the life of mankind. Science in the ancient Hindu system had the full support of the religious authorities. Each major Veda has a secondary Veda, which deals with science or another subject of humanity. Rig Veda has the Upaveda ayurveda, which deals with the sciences of medicine and health. Yajurveda has the Upaveda dhanuveda, which deals with archery and the military. Samaveda has the Upaveda gandharvaveda, which deals with music. And Atharveda has the Upaveda sthapathyaveda, which deals with astronomy, astrology, engineering, and mathematics. |

Every year on the Saturday of Martin Luther King weekend the Central Appalachian Astronomy Club (CAAC) hosts an Astronomy Day event, free for the public. They have an inflatable planetarium for those interested in checking it out (especially the younger generations), and feature three speakers on different topics in astronomy and space exploration. They also have an array of telescopes set up for people to look through, handouts for people to take, and refreshments - all for free! This video is a compilation of stills and time-lapse sequences I shot during the CAAC's Astronomy Day on January 14, 2012. A Canon SD 1100 digicam and a Nikon D7000 were used to shoot the time-lapse sequences. Motion in some of the time-lapse provided by a Dynamic Perceptions Stage Zero dolly |

I made this video to set the theme for astronomy related Christmas gifts I gave to my family in 2011. The gifts included a telescope, sextant, star charts, astronomy and astrology books, replica of the Mayan calendar, etc. It is a sort of mission statement for 2012. I thought it might be a good year to start looking outside of our chaotic world of social networks and media bombardment in order to reconnect to the earth and sky; finding some tranquility through the process as well as rekindling the flames of curiosity and excitement about exploring the universe. Yes, I get the irony of saying that while posting the video to YouTube... Also, there is a guest appearance at the end of it that I added just for the Christmas presentation. |

Although photography is classified as an art form, Dr. Mike Reed, associate professor of astronomy at Missouri State University, has developed a new photographic instrument that can be used to further his seismology research. It is a variation of a 3-CCD photometer, which he has termed the Grindstaff Tricolor Camera or GT Cam, and it is only the fourth such instrument in the world. The National Science Foundation granted Reed the funds to build this instrument for his seismology research. |
